The first Philoptochos ("fi-lop-to-hos" friend of those in need) was organized in New York City in 1902. Today's Philoptochos is a national non-profit organization officially chartered in 1931, comprised of 475 chapters, with approximately 28,000 members. It is the largest Christian women's charitable organization in the western hemisphere!
